Here's a photo of the swimming pool used to temporarily house the fish while the pond was still being finished.

The pool was only about 20 inches deep and the water was quite warm.

This is the pond (the big hole in the ground) and the temporary pond (the ugly blue swimming pool) taken from my bedroom window.

Once the liner arrived from Kenco, my son and his friend got up early the next morning and had the liner in the hole and filling with water before I even got out of bed.

It turned out a lot bigger than I had wanted it. It is 12ft. by 24ft. and goes from 18 inches to 2 ft. to 4 1/2 ft. to 3ft. and hold just shy of 4000 gallons.

This shows the drop to the 5 foot depth for the fish to winter in.

So now come the rocks. At least I have rocks. In Houston I had to buy rocks. Here I have lots of rocks in my yard. There had once been a small wall built from small flat rock that had collapsed, plus the yard is on a slope so there were rocks from an old rock garden the previous owner destroyed, and then there is a creek just out my backyard that has tons of rock free for the picking. And we've been picking. Big ones, small ones, round ones, flat ones, colored ones and even some pink granite.

Having access to these rocks has allowed me to build dry walls for flower beds.

Here I've been putting in paths and a patio area in front of the pondhouse by embedding flat rocks into the ground.

I've built a small staircase into the slope coming around the pond to the area in front of the pond house.

I made these stairs that go right down to the edge of the pond.
